The ANZ bank has confirmed it will close its Katoomba branch in October – telling customers to make the 50 minute trip to Penrith if they want to use over-the-counter services.
The branch will close permanently at 1.30pm on Wednesday, October 23.
“Transactions in our branches have halved over the past five years,” ANZ said in a statement.
“Today, just one per cent of all transactions are done over-the-counter and almost four million customers use our mobile banking appl.
“While we will always be available to discuss your banking needs, it is important we adapt to these changing preferences.”
The bank claims only 363 customers were performing three or more transactions at the Katoomba branch over the space of 12 months.
The nearest ANZ branch for Katoomba customers is in Penrith.
