Construction is set to begin on a new 3.8km off-road pathway along Singles Ridge Road, providing a safer connection for walkers and bike riders between Winmalee and Yellow Rock.
The pathway will run between Vendetta Road, Winmalee and Yellow Rock Road, Yellow Rock, and connect with existing paths to provide a continuous link through to Springwood.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said reaching the construction phase was an important milestone for the project.
“This new pathway will make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to walk and ride between Winmalee and Yellow Rock, while helping to connect our active transport network," he said.
“Creating safer, more connected options to get around means people can choose to walk or ride for everyday journeys, stay active and enjoy their local neighbourhoods.”
The project has progressed through planning, design and community consultation since early 2025, including two rounds of community feedback on the concept and developed designs.
Greenhill thanked residents who provided feedback during the design process.
“Local knowledge has helped Council better understand how people use Singles Ridge Road and the issues that need to be considered as we deliver the project," he said.
Construction is expected to continue until March 2027, subject to weather, site conditions and other factors that can affect the works.
The Singles Ridge Road link is part of Council’s Active Transport Links Program, a long-term initiative to improve safety and connectivity for walkers and bike riders across the Blue Mountains, designed to encourage healthier lifestyles and more sustainable forms of transport.
The program identifies priority projects that connect communities with schools, shops, public transport and other key destinations, with a goal of delivering up to 30km of new active transport infrastructure across the city.
The Singles Ridge Road link is proudly funded by the NSW Government.
Member for Blue Mountains Trish Doyle MP said: “The NSW Government is pleased to fund this important piece of infrastructure to the tune of $2.6 million.
“This 3.8 km new wide shared pathway will fill a large gap along Singles Ridge Road between Vendetta Road and Yellow Rock Road.”
“This is all about our community being able to walk and ride safely. And it’s also about ensuring accessibility for all.
“There will be seating along the way and landscaping, and everyone will get to see the benefits of improving these active transport links between Springwood, Winmalee, Hawkesbury Heights and Yellow Rock.
“I am looking forward to seeing this construction begin in earnest and I know the community is eager to see the project completed by the middle of next year. I congratulate Council for their work to date.”
