A popular wellbeing-focused arts program developed by the Art Gallery of New South Wales is returning to the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, following highly successful runs in 2023 and 2024.
Culture Dose for Kids is an evidence-based program developed from research conducted by the Black Dog Institute and recognised by UNICEF. The program supports children’s mental health through creative engagement with art in a calm and supportive environment.
Children aged 9–12 who are experiencing mild anxiety, together with their parent or caregiver, are invited to participate in this free eight-week program.
The initiative provides a structured and welcoming space where young people can explore artworks, express ideas and build confidence through creative activities. Engagement with the arts has been shown to support emotional expression, strengthen resilience, foster social connection and improve overall wellbeing.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said it is a fantastic opportunity for the Blue Mountains to welcome this program back for another year.
“Working with key cultural institutions like the Art Gallery of New South Wales allows us to bring high-quality, inclusive arts programs directly to our region,” he said.
The program will be delivered by trained arts facilitators and run over eight consecutive Saturdays from 2pm to 4pm. A concurrent program will be held for participating parents and caregivers. All materials, resources and afternoon tea will be provided.
The program is offered at no cost, ensuring accessibility for families and reducing barriers to participation.
Previous participants have highlighted the program’s positive impact.
One participant said “we absolutely loved the Culture Dose for Kids program. It gave us precious time to pause together as a family, be curious about art and create meaningful things side by side.
“The facilitators created such a warm, safe and respectful space where creativity and meaningful possibilities felt endless.”
Another former participant shared her experience, “My child and I enjoyed Culture Dose so much. The program brought fresh perspectives on art and life in a relaxing, creative environment that felt welcoming for both kids and adults,” she said.
“The whole experience felt like a warm hug. We left feeling inspired, connected and uplifted.”
Registrations for Culture Dose for Kids close on June 22, 2026. Participation is by application.
