Blue Mountains City Council and Lennox Park Tennis Club have installed a commemorative plaque at Lennox Park Tennis Courts to honour the life and extraordinary contribution of Margaret Moore, who dedicated more than 50 years to caring for the courts, the Club and the community.
Margaret, who passed away in late February, began volunteering in 1975 alongside her husband Reg after Council entrusted them with the responsibility of managing access to the newly built court.
What began as holding a key for local players grew into five decades of stewardship, advocacy and connection.
Over the years, Margaret welcomed generations of families to the courts, managing bookings and finances with diligence and pride. She enjoyed the simple ritual of chatting with players as they collected and returned the keys, often watching children who once played there return years later with families of their own.
Mayor Mark Greenhill said Margaret embodied the very best of community spirit.
“It was a privilege to know Margaret, Reg and the Moore family,” Greenhill said.
“Margaret’s contribution to Lennox Park cannot be overstated. For more than half a century, she quietly ensured the courts remained open, welcoming and well cared for. She built relationships, fostered trust and helped create a place where generations connected through sport.”
During Margaret and Reg’s time at the courts, Lennox Park evolved from a single sand court to a well-used community facility. They advocated for improvements to the courts and surrounding park, championing facilities that reflected the needs of local families.
“Margaret’s legacy lives on in the strong sense of community at Lennox Park,” Greenhill said.
“Council extends its heartfelt condolences to the Moore family and our sincere thanks for Margaret’s lifelong dedication.”
The commemorative plaque will serve as a permanent reminder of her enduring contribution to the Club and its community.
