The Planetary Health Initiative is inviting the community to take part in a weekend of wellbeing, creativity and connection at the Planetary Health Wellness Weekend, to be held at the Blue Mountains Planetary Health Centre in Katoomba on Saturday, February 28 and Sunday, March 1.

The free community event will feature a full day of talks, workshops, food, stalls and immersive experiences on Saturday, followed by a Deep Listening Immersive Field Workshop and a Peaceful Interfaith Gathering on Sunday.

Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said the weekend reflects the strong connection between personal wellbeing, community wellbeing and the health of the planet.

“Planetary health is about recognising that human health and the health of our environment are deeply connected,” he said.

“This weekend is an opportunity for people to come together, learn something new, connect with each other and spend time in nature. Whether you are interested in mental wellbeing, creativity, movement, sustainable living or simply enjoying good food and conversation, there is something for everyone.”

The Saturday program includes talks on mental health first aid, creativity, mindfulness, exercise and sleep, grieving with and for animals, and empowering yourself through the use of power tools.

Workshops nature journalling, ikebana, deep listening to nature, chair yoga, and a tai chi and Qigong class as well as shared reading.

You can view the full program, its timings, and register for your chosen sessions on the website. Spaces are limited.

Food vendors, the Planetary Health Cafe and community stalls will run throughout the day.

Sunday’s program includes a Deep Listening Immersive Field Workshop and a Peaceful Interfaith Gathering, welcoming people of all backgrounds and beliefs.

The event is free to attend, with some paid sessions. Registration is encouraged via the event website.

The Planetary Health Wellness Weekend is supported by Blue Mountains City Council in partnership with the Greater Blue Mountains Rotary Club and the Blue Mountains Interfaith Group. The event has been sponsored by the Katoomba and Upper Blue Mountains Bendigo Community Bank.
